Stan Pavlick (Manager Maintenance And Engineering) - Class Of 1987

MISSOULA - Stanley J. Pavlick, a Missoula resident for the past 30 years, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2001, after a six-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on October 12, 1931, the son of John Louis and Olive (Anson) Pavlick. Stan grew up in the Kalamazoo area, graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Kalamazoo College on an academic and baseball scholarship. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Stan spent three years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

On June 30, 1956, he and Marjorie Ann Wright of Dowling, Michigan, were united in marriage at the Dowling Methodist Church.

Most of Stan's working career was spent in the paper manufacturing industry. He worked four years for KVP-Sutherland Paper Co. in Michigan and Canada and 10 years as plant engineer for Simpson Paper Company in Vicksburg, Michigan.

In 1971, the family moved to Missoula, where Stan served as manager of Engineering and Maintenance of Hoerner-Waldorf, Champion International and Stone Container Corporation at the Missoula mill for 16 years, prior to his retirement in 1987. He was a licensed professional engineer in the states of Michigan, New York and Montana. After retirement, Stan and Marj spent eight winters "RVing" in Arizona.

The family owned a cabin at Seeley Lake for many years and Stan truly loved the outdoor recreational opportunities in western Montana, particularly hiking in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area.

At the age of 44, Stan started jogging and eventually began running in many road races in Montana and the Phoenix area. He was a frequent age-group winner. While in his early 60s, he was rated the No. 1 runner in his age group for the state of Arizona. He finished first in his age group in the last 36 consecutive races he ran.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son in 1961. He is survived by Marjorie, his beloved wife of 45 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ken Colyer of Missoula; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sue Pavlick of Green River, Wyoming; a sister, Carol Hamill-Maillet of Tuscon, Ariz.; grandsons Mitchell, Evan and Lane Colyer of Missoula; stepgrandsons, Kenneth Robinson and Nic Talmark; stepgranddaughter, Melinda Robinson of Green River, Wyoming; nephews John Hamill of Richland, Michigan, and David Hamill of Tucson. He was also survived by a very special birddog, a Brittany named Rowdy.

The family wishes to express a special thank-you to doctors Trauscht, Pickhardt and Morris, and Dr. Trauscht's oncology nurses Jenny, Leanne, Carolyn and Connie.

A memorial service was held at Friday at Garden City Funeral Home, with a reception following in the funeral home's community room.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, P.O. Box 8249, Missoula, MT 59807.

Rest in Peace dear Friend.
