Jim Doerfler (Maintenance Manager) - Class Of 1989 VIEW PROFILE

POLSON - Jimmy A. Doerfler died in the early-morning hours of February 16, 2008, at his home on his beloved Flathead Lake. His son and daughter in-law were at his side. The preceding days, he was surrounded by family and close friends.

Jim was a fun-loving man who enjoyed a quick word and the company of family and friends. His compassion, concern and care for others always came first and will be greatly missed.

Jim was born in Albany, Oregon, April 9, 1932, where he attended grade school, high school and then went on to Oregon Tech. He was an excellent athlete, excelling in football and being a state divisional wrestling champion. On March 15, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Michele, and they had two sons, Gregg and Mike. His professional career began early in the paper industry in Albany, Oregon, then Pasco, Washington, Show Low, Arizona, and finally in Missoula in 1969. He retired as maintenance superintendent from Stone Co. in 1991. The summer of 1969 was the beginning of a Doerfler family passion for Flathead Lake, camping every weekend at Blue Bay and eventually settling into a home in Big Arm in 1988. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed scuba diving and was an avid water skier.

He and his family spent many summer days snorkeling for lake treasures and boating the shores of Flathead Lake. For the last 13 summers, watching his granddaughter Malori grow up was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Preceding Jim in death are his parents Lee and Muriel; sister Virginia; wife Marianne and son Mike. He is survived by family, son Gregg and wife Bonnie; daughter in-law Terry; granddaughter Malori; Judy Doerfler and longtime friend and companion Peggy Blass.

It was Jim's request to have a simple and fun celebration of his life. A celebration was held at the family's cabin in Big Arm during the summer of 2008.  Jim's ashes were joined with that of his wife, Marianne.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Camp Mak-A-Dream, Building 32, Fort Missoula Road, Missoula, MT 59808, and Lake County Search and Rescue, 106 Fourth Ave. E., Polson, MT 59860. Arrangements and cremation are by Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.groganfuneralhome.com.
