Jerry Nordhus (Chip Dock) - Class Of 1999

MILES CITY - Jerald "Jerry" Lee Nordhus, 71, died suddenly June 12, 2007, at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City from an aneurysm of the aorta.

Nordhus had been a resident of Jordan since April of 2001. He and his wife Charolette, "Charlie," selected Jordan for their retirement home after living in Milltown for about 30 years.

Jerry was born to Selmer and Adeline Nordhus at Auburn, Iowa, on Feb. 7, 1936. He had one brother, Richard, and after schooling in Auburn, they both joined the Air Force in 1953 under the brother program. Richard was stationed in Germany and Jerry went to Korea. Jerry was discharged in December of 1956 and went to work in Arizona on an irrigation project shortly thereafter.

He and "Charlie" Alexander met on New Year's Eve in 1956 in West Union, Iowa, on a blind date. They were married on Aug. 23, 1957, in New Hampton, Iowa, and moved to Rochester, Minn., to make their home. The couple had four children, three sons, Jerald Lee Jr. "J.R.", Greg, and, Randall "Randy," and one daughter, Allison.

Jerry and Charlie lived in Rochester for several years, where Jerry drove semi-truck in the area. The family moved to Missoula in 1969, where Jerry took a job with the University of Montana-Missoula, working for family housing doing maintenance work. He worked there nine years and then took a job at the paper mills in Frenchtown. He drove big equipment and was an engineer on a train line in the yards. He worked at this until his retirement in 1999.

Jerry liked to fish and to hunt and had been in the Jordan area on vacations for several years with his family. Sometimes his hunting and fishing buddies came with him. It was on one of these trips in 1994, that he decided that he wanted to make Jordan his home during his retirement.

The family sold their home in East Missoula and Jerry and Charlie started a new life in Jordan. They purchased a home and made many friends, becoming involved in community events.

Jerry liked to serve others and often he cheerfully took people to the doctor, dentist and other appointments when they needed to travel to Billings, Miles City, Glasgow or Wolf Point. Jerry also worked part-time with Neil Stanton in plumbing, construction, or remodeling projects. He was there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help.

He was a member of the VFW White Post No. 7886 of Jordan and he was also a member of the Garfield County Council on Aging.

Jerry had a hearty laugh and a big smile and enjoyed teasing his friends and family members.

He enjoyed a good game of pinochle and played fairly and squarely to win!

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, "Charlie"; two of his sons, J. R. (Jerald Jr.) of Milltown and Randy and wife, Cori of Clinton, and his daughter, Allison, and son-in-law, Willie Lovell of Milltown; eight grandchildren, Nick, Jake and Tanner Nordhus; David Nordgulen; Zack, Tristen, and Emily Nordhus; and Madison Nordhus; and his brother, Richard, of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Greg, who passed away in October of 2006, and granddaughter, Leah Nordhus.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Bonner/Milltown Lions Club Barn. A pot-luck dinner followed and everyone was invited to join the family there.

Jerry's request was for his ashes be scattered over the mountains near Milltown.
