Richard Alan McMeekin

September 23, 1932 - March 4, 2010

BUTTE - Born in Wenatchee, Wash., Richard Alan McMeekin died in Butte, where he had lived for many years.

Graduating in 1950 from Missoula County High School, he went on to graduate from MSU-Missoula (now University of Montana), with majors in chemistry, math and physics.

Richard served two years in the U.S. Army as a weather observer, leaving with an honorable discharge and Good Conduct Medal in 1957. Later employment included positions as a chemist with Horner-Waldorf, in Frenchtown, and Anaconda Copper Mines (later sold to ARCO).

Richard was predeceased by his father, John H. McMeekin; mother Irene M. McMeekin; two brothers, Donovan L. Humphrey and John G. McMeekin; and a sister, Patricia (McMeekin) Badgley.

Survivors include a sister, Marilyn (McMeekin) Jwaideh of Monterey, Calif.; two nieces, Jenan Jwaideh and Lya Badgley-Babic; three nephews, Faris and Juhan Jwaideh, and Chris Badgley. Also included are grand nephews Noah Muller and Andrew Jwaideh; grand nieces Izabel Babic and Patricia Badgley; and many cousins. Richard's Butte cousin, Laura Gonzalez, was by his side when he died.

Richard was a loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who possessed a great sense of humor and many talents. He was an avid reader, computer "whiz" and the family historian. Richard will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Butte's Duggan and Dolan Mortuary was in charge of cremation and interment in Missoula Cemetery's Columbarium.
