1933 - 2011


MISSOULA - Alfred D. "Bud" Ahlin passed away peacefully at his home Monday, October 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.  Bud was born on March 19, 1933, to Art and Ada Ahlin in his paternal grandparents' home in Drummond.  He was the second oldest of six children and grew up on a small ranch outside of Drummond.  Bud graduated from Drummond High School.

Bud and his high school sweetheart, Rose Ann Duwe, were married on April 19, 1952, at St. Michael's Church in Drummond.  The couple moved to Missoula where Bud was employed in various occupations until he landed a job with High Tower Construction, building the Frenchtown pulp mill.  Bud was one of the original 57 employees hired to the mill, from which he retired in 1992.

Bud and Rose were blessed with 11 children.  Bud was a loving man who enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his family, hunting and fishing.  They enjoyed many special times together at Holland Lake.


Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Rose Marie; his son, John "Jack"; his grandson, Josh Ahlin, and his daughter-in-law, Colleen Ahlin.


He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose; and is survived by his children, George (Maggie) of Bonner, Bob of Spokane, Louise Henderson (Dan) of Missoula, Mary Jo Arnold (Scott) of Victor, Elizabeth "Betsy", Joe (Jenny) and Pat (Michelle) all of Stevensville, Cathy Moore (Joe) of Seeley Lake and Fred (Sharene) of Weiser, Idaho, and 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Chet (Phyllis) of Drummond, Karen Cross of Missoula, Tom (Gladys) of Elko, Nevada, Richard (Punky) of Ashland, Oregon, and Linda Barclay (Dennis) of Anaconda.   


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials can be made in Bud's name to the De La Salle Blackfeet School, P.O. Box 1489, Browning, MT 59417.


Visitation was held Thursday, October 20 and a vigil followed at Garden City Funeral Home.


A funeral Mass was held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on October 21.  Burial took place at the St. Mary's Annex Cemetery following Mass.

Bud's wife and Betsy's Mom Rose Ann Ahlin, 77, passed away November 3, 2011, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  Bud and Rose's daughter, Louise Henderson passed away on June 9, 2019, after a prolonged illness.
