Larry Jones


STEVENSVILLE - Larry E. Jones, 68, died at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born April 15, 1937, in Stevensville and was the son of Percy and Ruby (Campbell) Jones.

He served his country in the Navy from 1954 until 1958.  He worked for the Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. from 1962, retiring in 1999.  He taught welding at the Missoula Vo-Tech.

Larry loved to tinker with mechanical devices to make them work more efficiently. He also loved to golf and was very fond of his horses - he was a true cowboy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather as well as his brother, Richard Jones.

Survivors include his four children: daughter Laura Lee Kelly of Stevensville, sons Ray Jones of Carlsbad, Calif., and Rodney Jones and Kevin Jones, both of Santa Maria, Calif. Also surviving are a brother, Roy A. Jones of Kerrville, Texas; sisters Katherine "Lou" Adams of Corvallis and Judy Thornbrugh and Dorothy Rivera, both of Victor; five grandchildren, Justin Burnham and Travis Dorland, both of Stevensville, Tyler Jones of Carlsbad, Calif., and Madelyn Jones and Justin Jones of Santa Maria.

Larry's family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of his life that was held Saturday, July 2, at his residence, 52 Luby Lane in Florence.

Larry lived life to the fullest. All who loved him will remember him for his generous soul and selfless efforts.

"Fare you well kind friends and family I've known; my life was well spent by your company I owned; so, I'll leave you all with a smile and a bow."

The Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville were in charge of cremation arrangements.
