Joe Woods (A-Mechanic -Electrician)

Joe Woods

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Joseph R. Woods died peacefully at home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Monday, November 3, 2014.

He was born April 10, 1940. Russel and Vivian (Piche) Woods became his proud parents, along with his sister Cheri, in Missoula.  After graduating from Loyola High School, he married Marie Howel and had three sons, Russel, Robert “Robby” and Bryan.  He attended school in Spokane Valley to become an electrician.  Starting his career at Walford Electric in Missoula, he retired from Smurfit-Stone Container in 2004 after 37 years at the paper mill as an electrician.  Joe also served in the National Guard.

Joe made many friends throughout his life with his many jokes and stories. He was an avid fisherman and always said, “A bad day of fishing was better than a good day of working!”  He also was a trap shooter and enjoyed hunting.

After his marriage to Tava Dee Sweeney in 1993, they enjoyed ATV riding, boating, RV camping and were able to take many trips with cruises to the Mediterranean and the Bahamas as some of their favorites. They recently moved to Coeur d’Alene to enjoy the nearby lakes.

Joe had many skills in building, plumbing and welding, and was able to make or repair almost anything.  His favorite saying was, “It may not be pretty, but it is hell for stout.”  He never hesitated to come to the aid of friends, neighbors and family.  Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and played a mean game of pinochle.  He will be greatly missed.

Joe is survived by his loving wife; his sons; stepchildren, Roger, Rod and Traci; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held November 10, at the Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel in Hayden Lake, Idaho. Please visit Joe’s memorial and sign his online guestbook at

Rest in Peace dear Friend.
