Marty Cox (A -Mechanic)

Marty Cox

Martin (Marty) James Cox, born September 29, 1945, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021, in his home with his family by his side. Marty was a gentle, kind soul, full of hunting and fishing stories who enjoyed the outdoors. He was an animal whisperer and loved having a dog or two in the house at all times. His carpentry skills were superb; he apprenticed a few family members who were interested in learning this skill, which had been passed down to him. Marty was a man of great strength, commitment, and painful perseverance.

Marty was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Thomas and MaryJane Cox. He attended school in Delton where he was an outstanding athlete and the quarterback on the high school football team. His love for football never wavered and he remained an avid fan throughout his life. Shortly after his high school graduation, Marty enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Vietnam on the USS Kittyhawk. He didn't talk much about his experience in Vietnam. His family remains thankful for his service to our country.

In 1971, Marty met and married Edie Vendeville, a widow with four children. Those four children (John, Jim, Jodi, and Joan) never called Marty anything but Dad. Those were his kids as well as two girls (Jennie and Jessica) born to him and Edie. Marty and his family moved to Montana where he enjoyed the great outdoors. Marty and Edie divorced but maintained a friendship throughout the rest of his life.

In 1997, Marty met Kim and they were married a few years later. They recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. Together they loved exploring, camping, boating, fishing, and hunting. There were numerous funny stories about some of their adventures, leaving folks laughing in seconds after they started relating details of their experiences.

Marty is survived by his wife, Kim, and his children; John Vendeville (Carol), Jim Vendeville, Jodi Vendeville (Buddy), Joan Cole (Bill), Jennifer Cox, Jessica Shourd (Patrick), six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Kari Winder (Tyrell), and her three children as well as one grandchild from his step son. Also, surviving are his brothers Tom Cox (Carolyn) and Ken Cox, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and MaryJane Cox, and his sister, Patricia Baker. At Marty's request, cremation has already taken place. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a future date and notice will be given as soon as possible.

Brothers Mortuary and Crematory are honored to care for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at brothersmortuary.com
